"Drawing hands is hell."
-Picasso or somebody
I try to avoid rendering anatomically correct hands whenever possible. You'll see one of my rare attempts at hand drawing in last week's "Career Path Generator." Which is probably why I decided to repost this exercise in evasion.

I FACE THIS PROBLEM!!
ReplyDeleteI can't draw hands to save my life! I always find ways to hide the hands of my cartoons. Hahah. Thanks for sharing this!!

Oh this post speaks to me...I just did a painting where I had to repaint the doods hand about 12000 times because it looked like a freaking muppet hand. Which, if it were the correct type of painting would have been fine, but unfortunately not so much for this one. lol Great toon!
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot. It's really funny and so true - hands are difficult and take loads of practice. That's why the main character in my comic strip is a cow :)
ReplyDeleteI think that was a really good hand. At least you aren't making everyone hold presents or bouquets (my solution as a child).

ReplyDeleteHands are a pain in the neck. I still muddle through with them.
ReplyDeleteOn the subject, I found posemaniacs.com has a good free online set of rotatable 3d-graphic hand models for sketching. (Work warning: It opens on an anatomically correct male torso.)

UGH SERIOUSLY!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I draw hands, they suck so much that I color them SUPER psychedelically so no one would notice... >.<
Yes!!! I completely get the hand-drawing angst! This cracked me up. I painted couples in previous paintings with their arms connected (poetically?) to symbolize their bond...but it was also an awesome way to not have to draw two hands! Bonus.
ReplyDeleteWow. Drawing hands is actually one of the things I think I do pretty well.
ReplyDeleteHeehee, love the post though haha.
I once wrote a poem about this very subject. You can find it here:

zombie casualty is my fav hand
ReplyDeleteThank you! I reblogged you, so my one reader can enjoy your talent.
ReplyDeleteNice one! Drawing hands seriously is hell! Thanks for the tips :D
ReplyDeleteFeet are a problem too. The reason: too many bones!
ReplyDeleteWidow Lady: Muppet hands are awesome.
ReplyDeleteAlex: Cloven hooves are much more fun to draw.
PeaceLoveSharpies: Seems like super-psychedelic colored hands would attract even more attention...
Julia: Symbolic solutions are always the best.
Crimson: Beautiful poem!
This post was hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI've always had a hard time drawing anything involving people, despite the apparently useless courses I took in school. When I do attempt to draw or paint anything now I usually just stick to landscapes.
I loved this! I also have a problem with hands. I linked to you in my blog post, hope you don't mind. =)
ReplyDeleteThis is great...not only because everybody has faced this problem at some point but even one of the greats has found an eternal solution to it...The great Glen Baxter was once asked why his characters always wade through two feet of water...answer 'I can't draw feet'.

I prefer the hook version myself, but willing to try satan as well
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I printed this out (is that allowed?) to remind myself I need to practice. Every day.
